Tim -
You can import any penset you wish into AMT without messing anything up. However, when you invoke a penset, you will see the colors and pen weights change dramatically. In order for this to be usable, you'll need to import this penset into the Interactive Legends file, and select each element and change settings as needed to make sure that it looks good with that penset. Of course, you can select many similar elements (furniture, for example) and switch the pens for them all at once.
Still, it will be a significant amount of work in order to prepare the Interactive Legends to look good with a different penset. Once you have done that, you would then need to switch the penset in the template itself for each View. Since most Views use the same penset, you can select multiple Views in the View Map, click View Settings, then make the change in one step. I'm not sure which Views use a different penset than the main one, if any - but be aware that there may be exceptions.
You'll then need to create or import another penset for the STS pens which turns some or many of them to black only. In Drawing Manager, sort by drawing type (to group the normal drawings together, separate from the PDF's and other graphics), and click Drawing Settings; change the penset for plotting to use the new one with the black pens. Note that we have a variation of the standard pens already set for this purpose - but you need to do this to coordinate with your imported penset if you want to print or plot in color or grey scale but have most of the standard element pens be solid black.
